As an extension of the ‘Organic Mater’ series, Digital Mater uses photograph and digital processes to create new forms from organic matter process drawings.
The Organic matter series uses the processes of drawing and casting to create natural forms as a result of performing the making processes. The outcome depends heavily on the artist and factors in all aspects of the materials used, this creates original pieces that cannot be replicated. The process can be repeated and it will produce an original organic form, independent of its predecessors.
Digital matter uses computer processes as the artist factor, using the digital mind to create individual pieces as outcomes of a set process. The input of form from the organic matter acts as the natural imperfection catalyst required for originality, and the digital mind processes new independent forms from this.
The more times the digital process is repeated on a single piece, the further it is from the organic input, and now exists as digital impressions.
