About The Artwork

With all of the racial violence and uproar that was witness in the year of 2017 in The United States, I felt an obligation to express what I was feeling through my art. The piece entitled "Divided States of America" (Or D.O.A. for short,) reflects the "melting of the red white and blue colors of the American flag;" due to the "various" splintered groups that have been formed (or grown in size,) due to the tension that is felt in the air throughout the United States. The black background (representing the minorities,) with the flag colors dripping down the canvas, shows how America seems to be trying to "drown" or hold down those people. And yet the hard edges and "towers" that the negative shapes form under (and between) the drips, show a group of Americans and immigrants willing to stand up for what they feel are not only their rights, but in some cases... their very life. Please note: This is the first (of 4) limited canvas print editions of this artwork.

Being born in Nassau Bahamas, I incorporate its of color and movement in my art. As a child was entranced by the brilliant turquoise seas and white powder sands. The Bahamas is filled with intense Yellow Elders, our National flower, pink flamingos, intensely colored poinciana trees, purple bougainvillea. and crimson Hibiscus Flowers. My favorite time of the year is always Christmas and The New Year's holidays because of the whirling parades of our National Junkanoo Festival. I recall the bright colorful costumes made of fringed crepe paper, undulating in the streets to the beat of the goat skin drums, and metal cowbells and bellowing horns. Although I now reside in The U.S. those memorable flashes of color and movement constantly invade my art as abstract representations of the home that I will always love. I like to use splashes of pure acrylic colors along with objects that enhance and intensify my message. Also, I have been an avid photographer and lately started combing the two disciplines. I hold degrees in both Fine Art and Photography, and have won several awards, including "Best of Show" My work as been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, and California, Miami, Budapest Hungry, and The Bahamas.
