About The Artwork

" Drilling the New Fire on top of Xiuhcoatl, the fire serpent." Codex Laud, sheet 8. Digital painting by MM on orange background. “The fire was lit and the hearts calmed down... here disease and starvation were removed from us. The favorable sign was the sending of the new fire. With it another century of fifty two years began.” Alfredo López Austin. In these times of war, drugs and millions of homeless, displaced and disappeared people in Mexico and the world I take no more photos. Instead, I paint selected pre-Columbian pictograms. I also participate and rejoice, though only virtually, in the present revival of space exploration. But that’s another story. Colors have always enriched my perception and life. Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner are some of my favorite visual artists, who have contributed to the way I perceive and cherish color. The pure, rich hues of my digital modifications and the impact of their complementary colors are, I guess, my tribute to the passionate and daring use of color of Post-impressionism and Fauvism. Mexico is color. The bright, vibrant colors of Mexico’s popular cultures and everyday life sustain me. More than anything the magic, mystery and color of ancient and contemporary Mexico are my source of inspiration. The 50 cm print comes in a limited edition of 9. Title, author and year of manufacture are included on the print. The print comes with a 1 cm white border. Made to order on archival cotton paper in 10 days plus shipping. For open edition inkjet prints in custom size please contact mario.mutschlechner@gmail.com

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

As an industrial photographer from Cologne, Germany, based since 1967 in Mexico City, I used my craft for decades to document scenes and subjects in sharp, detailed and well lit images. Back in the seventies, when simulating views of other planets, I was looking for a different perception of reality and found it with infrared color film. Today I enjoy a creative freedom similar to that of a painter. With the right combination of photograph and digital manipulation I can create images that are a tribute to imagination and beauty. Starting in 2019 I present on Saatchiart 15 collections as a synopsis of my photography, some digitally remastered and others digitally modified, for sale as archival inkjet prints in different sizes.
