In these times of war, drugs and millions of homeless, displaced and disappeared people in Mexico and the world I take no more photos. Instead, I paint selected pre-Columbian pictograms. I also participate and rejoice, though only virtually, in the present revival of space exploration. But that’s another story. Colors have always enriched my perception and life. Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner are some of my favorite visual artists, who have contributed to the way I perceive and cherish color. The pure, rich hues of my digital modifications and the impact of their complementary colors are, I guess, my tribute to the passionate and daring use of color of Post-impressionism and Fauvism. Mexico is color. The bright, vibrant colors of Mexico’s popular cultures and everyday life sustain me. More than anything the magic, mystery and color of ancient and contemporary Mexico are my source of inspiration. The 50 cm print comes in a limited edition of 9.
