About The Artwork
I was recently motivated to create this piece and directly inspired from a watercolor painting created by Jim Worster. My husband Jamie met the artist in Boulder, CO through a family that helped Jim during a challenging time in his life. Jamie purchased one of Jim's watercolor paintings in 1990, and it's hung in our home ever since. (see attached images to find Jim's colorful painting). Living with this piece for so many years, it has always remained a mystery to me. I've always been intrigued with the figure's pose and Jim's execution of watercolor. Why is the figure hiding his face while sitting uncomfortably in this corner? What are his thoughts? Is he ok? Two years ago, I had a vision appear of a female figure in this pose. Letting the art form for some time in my thoughts, I finally set out to create the image. I hope my piece "Enigma" creates as much mystery for those who view it, as much Jim's watercolor has created for me.

My mind is my sketchbook and my art is what I see, how I feel, and wherever I go. The foundation of my art is drawing. After exploring countless mediums, nothing excites me more than working with tusche washes - a media used for printmaking. I eliminate the printmaking process and leave the tusche washes as is in my finished work. This medium helps me to create the images I see in my mind with the emotional impact I feel when I draw. I also build my own canvases by stretching repurposed coffee bags over wooden frames. I love drawing on the knobbly surfaces with oil pastels – an arduously time-consuming adventure. I enjoy working with these materials because it gives my art unique textures, colors and expression of my visions.
