Art Description

New Media: Digital and Photo on Paper.

I took this underwater photograph of one of my daughters, just as she was releasing silk roses from her hand, and I later painted upon the photo to make it appear as though she were in the ocean.

To me the roses being released and floating away symbolizes those poignant moments when we have to allow something we love having in our lives to leave us, even if it means we may watch it slowly glide away, bit by bit, until it has faded away from our lives altogether.

I choose to do underwater photography of people because I am physically disabled and do not stand or walk well for very long on land. However, I am able to get around quite well in the low gravity environment of water. I do enjoy the oftentimes surreal effects water has on my photographic subjects.
