Howth Harbour Portrait 16 Artwork

CREATION 'Howth Harbour Portrait 16' finds the subject out for a seaside walk with his unseen family. Bright, well-read and pensive, he's free to muse. I wanted to combine a relaxed face with a sense of an alert mind working behind the eyes, the mind focused perhaps elsewhere. It's a speculative portrait, one of six, each a member of the same family portrayed while out walking. It's based on a series of photos, which I cut up to make a composite model, before painting. The location is East Pier, Howth Harbour in Dublin. It was a breezy and cloudy day, the light milky and flat, which prompted me to inject more colour. It turned out to be a gift – I pushed them further than normal, and that encouraged me to think of this subject's character and intellect as a pointer for colour. MATERIALS This digital painting is printed onto Kodak Professional Endura Metallic VC paper, a digital C-type photgraphic paper with a rich metallic base and a larger colour gamut. The colours have a reflective, soft metallic and 3-dimensional feel to them and they're guaranteed to archival standards, around one to two hundred years. It would be supplied un-mounted, so you can frame as you wish. OPTIONAL FRAMING AND PROTECTION If you wish, the work can be protected with a matt acrylic seal, extending its life and protecting it from UV (extra $22). Further, if you prefer a ready-to-hang work, I can have it professionally mounted on a modern aluminium substrait, completely air-sealed behind perspex, protecting the work from scuffs or damage, further extending its archival life and supply a wall-fixing subframe.
