About The Artwork

This digital image is the second of two that I created after seeing a ship breaking yard in the Far East. Whilst this is something of an abstraction, I have created a dockside landscape with a small vessel in the foreground giving way to larger vessels moored in the distance. The image suggests that the closest vessel is already stripped of its superstructure, the internal structure of the ship is laid bare and partly filled with water. There is a certain informality in my work where detail is sometimes suppressed and the color of the softened, geometric shapes provides form and depth.

I am a retired teacher, a digital and acrylic flow artist whose home is by the sea in Brittany, France. The movement and colors of the sea influence much of my art although I am also drawn to the influences of the Art Deco period. Being born in the industrial heartland of the UK, I have vivid memories of the steel making industry. Times change and with decline of heavy industry comes the decay of the once proud structures associated with it. Urban decay influences my work as does the way nature reclaims what is hers.
