This work was inspired by the stunning rock striations in Antelope canyon, in Arizona. I fused parts of an image of an area of the canyon, into the subject’s portrait, to create this beautiful ghostly portrait. Antelope Canyon is one of many in the South West USA that was formed by water erosion of the native sandstone. The title is a reflection of the esteem that the native Navajo Nation have for their land. I feel that the mirage-like effect of a skull on the left side of the subject’s face, adds an air of mystery to the work overall, as well as weight and meaning to the title.
The work is 24” x 36 and is printed on 100% heavy archival Fine Art Paper in a Limited Edition of 5 Framed Prints. The prints are matted with archival white 4 ply matting and framed with a simple clean black wood frame. Instead of glass, it is finished with clear acrylic which has several benefits. First the acrylic used in the framing has a higher optical quality than glass and is UV light resistant, so the work is well protected. Acrylic is also 50% lighter than glass, and unlike glass it’s shatterproof so it can easily be shipped without worry of breakage. All of the framing materials have been carefully chosen to compliment and enhance the finished print, so as to provide a cohesive and unique original work of art.
