About The Artwork

Land and Clouds I (PS5) is a new original piece from the body of glitch art works that I am making available here on Saatchi. I come from a very creative family of graphic designers, illustrators, animators, and artists. I myself studied animation as part of a degree in Media Production at a time when I thought I wanted to be a film director. It was photography however where I realized I felt the most fulfilled and at ease, but I’ve always felt some tension between producing photographs in the traditional sense versus a desire to create ‘photographs as design/illustration’ or mixed media work. To phrase this another way, I think the designer that is present in my genes has not been completely satisfied with the act of making a photograph, yet when I’ve made photographs that attempted to address this the work was, for the most part, abstract photographs – which I liked – but which did not sit easily in my portfolio alongside my other photographs of landscapes and coastal scenes for example. So within the last six months or so I began to acknowledge that I didn’t have to restrict myself to ‘just photography’ and I permitted myself to think less formally and begin experimenting. I had a vision of using my photographs as source material for manipulation in such ways that the resulting work would be far more akin to illustration than photography, similar to remixing in music.
