New Media: Acrylic, Digital, New Media, Full spectrum, Manipulated on Canvas, Paper, Other.
The inspiration for this body of work is primarily the mid-century abstract expressionist movement. One of the hallmarks of the movement involved the easing and abandonment of convention and specific meaning thereby allowing the viewer to interpret the works purely subjectively. What I love about this approach and style are the many figurative interpretations a particular viewer may have. Usually not what I had intended at all since the work was purely gestural for me to begin with.
The pieces in the series were originally painted with acrylics on very small pieces of colored papers and converted to digital files and expanded to their current size. The digital art was then laid atop a color field with soft vignette all around the image with a shadow line was added in which to add depth to the piece. Finally each piece is printed on archival canvas.
