is a meditative/transformative/metamorphic statement combining light, glass and animation. The unique and unusual project was installed in an underground tunnel at the Estonian Mining Museum in Kohtla-Nõmme, Estonia. Artist/creator MERY CRYSTAL RA (aka Meeli Koiva) explains that “Parasite Beach became my underground residence, where I slept inside a White Baldachine Bed, surrounded by stalactites and the power of human imagination. My thoughts and dreams were projected onto a screen behind me, creating real-time and continually evolving displays of light and sound.”
Goals
The goal of PARASITE BEACH was making imaginative energy visible to the naked eye. This was accomplished through the highly innovative use of computers, projectors, glass sculpture and various types of lighting. “My dreams at night became visible, creating vivid images for visitors to the exhibit,” says the artist. “Sometimes I felt myself transformed into a mystical stalactite bird flying through stalactite rain. Sometimes I felt like a bug, with many arms. It was an amazing and transformative experience!”
