About The Artwork

I find the image of the train endlessly fascinating, as a powerful means of transport that yet we can find in the most rural of settings despite being a child of our technological age: in a way they are a more modern version of the windmill. I love the hiss on the line when a fast electric train is approaching, the whoosh of the buffeting wind as it passes, and then the fading clicketty-hiss as it disappears. I remember that was on a summer's stroll from one village to another, and had just emerged from the trees when I spied this one approach. The image lay around for several years until one day I understood that the important memory was not just the train or the walk, but the interaction with the trackside building, an observer of an uncountable number of trains passing, baking in the summer sun. Movement and passivity, and yet forever linked by purpose.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My choice of photo editing to express my art is largely based on my desire to minimize how much room my materials take up in the small flat I share with my wife and two cats. I also find it convenient to carry my small 'snapshot' digital camera in my bag or pocket than a pencil and a pad, although the conversion from photo to picture is much the same as that from a sketch. For me the camera only has to capture a composition featuring some kind of consistent lighting - everything else is down to me. My pictures must say something, they are not a recording nor something that happens to be pretty. Neither do I spend any time looking to see what other artists have produced, and certainly never seek to copy other people's work or styles. My favorite subjects are those I take while my car is stationary and my wife.
