About The Artwork

We are given a gift, then we give it to someone else. This piece explores the use natural, biological and historical gifts and the reprocessing of those gifts. Starting from a live figurative charcoal drawing, the original piece suffered smoke damage in a fire. Segments of the artwork were scanned and digitally manipulated, Regifted was pieced back together in the digital manipulation process, printed on thick matte paper, adhered to canvas, painted over with a gel medium and acrylic, drawn over again, glossed, cut, painted and glossed again, poked with a blade and adorned with a bright red bow. Regifted speaks as a process to genetically inheriting a figure type and condition, the process of trying to change or alleviate the pain of that condition, the acceptance and embrace of that condition and figure type, and finally the passing on of that condition. During the creation of this piece, I had recently given birth to my second daughter just two years after my first. My thoughts had moved into what type of legacy I was creating and leaving for them and what my mother had given to me. I knew the road ahead would be difficult at times, and the fears of every mother crept in. Years marked by birthday parties, cake, friends, boys, change, puberty, rites of passage, death.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My work focuses primarily on reality based renders and expressions. Moving from portraiture into more explorative themes of self inspection, spiritual and secular impression and expression, existentialism, generational gaps and “hand-me-downs”, identity, its removal and replacement, as well as the correlation and integration of the traditional with the contemporary in most any form. My work makes use of traditional mediums such as oils, acrylics, charcoals and pastels, as well as mixed mediums, and new media. I use any one or more of these to bring about a piece or a body of work to which it lends itself most useful as a carrier for the subject matter. I do not limit neither my subject, style nor medium. I value art as an evolving exploration of life and a form of historical transcription.
