I wanted to extend my work as an abstract landscape artist, further and space was the obvious option. Spacescapes are extraordinary, vast and calming.

Stripping away the excess layers of reality to reveal the underlying colour and structure allows the brain to ‘feel’ not ‘work at’ viewing an image moving directly to the middle ground, a sense of being drawn into the artwork. Once there, while the eye and brain are captivated an inner sense of contentment can surface.

I love how the nuance of colour immediately changes mood and how stripping back to basics can be a mechanism to trigger a meditative moment away from our busy lives.

From her studio in a remote WW2 airbase in Suffolk, Abi examines photographs of landscapes - snapshots of nature that in her mind's eye transform into mental impressions to stimulate imagination, abstract memory and a compelling sense of place. Created from original photographs using a unique corruption process to form colour and structure which, when combined with digital and mixed media techniques, imbue the original scene with a hypnotic quality.
