Art Description

New Media: Acrylic, New Media on Paper, Aluminium, Other, Canvas.

From my series: History Of The 21st Century
Title: Smolensk 2010

I think we all tend to forget too easily, so I created a series of artworks under the theme "The History of the 21st Century."

My work does not take on any political perspective, yet rather commemorates events so as keep these past episodes alive in our common memory. In doing so the art provokes viewers to understand our lives today and the influence it has had of the most recent past along with its impact on current global policies.

The project consists of multiple works grouped around current events.

In the series there are artworks dedicated to:
- MH 17
- New York 9/11
- 2010 Smolensk
- Fukushima
- Chemical Attacks in Syria
(and others - check my gallery "The History Of The 21st Century")

"On 10 April 2010, a Tupolev Tu-154 aircraft of the Polish Air Force crashed near the city of Smolensk, Russia, killing all 96 people on board. Among the victims were the President of Poland Lech Kaczyński and his wife Maria, the former President of Poland in exile Ryszard Kaczorowski, the chief of the Polish General Staff and other senior Polish military officers, the president of the National Bank of Poland, Polish Government officials, 18 members of the Polish Parliament, senior members of the Polish clergy and relatives of victims of the Katyn massacre. The group was arriving from Warsaw to Smolensk in Russia to attend an event marking the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre, which took place not far from Smolensk.
The Katyn massacre - is a mass murder of Polish intellectuals, politicians, and military officers by the Soviets during World War II. The site of the massacre is approximately 19 km (12 mi) west of Smolensk.
Russia is still in possession of the wreckage of the Tupolev, having refused various requests made by the Polish government to return the items. (Wikipedia)
The re-investigation is still on.
