STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS 2013 "I want to give a picture of Dublin so complete that if the city one day suddenly disappeared from the earth it could be reconstructed out of my book." JAMES JOYCE Kammamuri envision a world free of constraints to normal time and space, where the stream of consciousness technique is used, through words and music, to guide the audience into a parallel dimension. Dublin 2013, a bowl of bitter water indeed. We have lost faith in our bankers, our politicians, our way of living. Dublin bay itself represents sickness, a greed induced green bile, a product of the Celtic Tiger heyday. Ulysses and its imagery of a city is hugely relevant in our society. The images and sensations that are brought to life through Joyce's words in Ulysses still and will resonate in our opinion with the inhabitants of Dublin today. WHY? When James Joyce began to write his novel Ulysses, he had in mind a creative project that brought together aspects of his two major works Dubliners and Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, while at the same time incorporating aspects of Homer's epic The Odyssey. The novel Ulysses encompasses a total of eighteen chapters, tracing the actions of various Dubliners beginning at 8am on the day of June 16, 1904. The eighteen chapters of Joyce's Ulysses correspond to specific episodes in Homer's epic. Ulysses is a book written by someone who was supposed to become a tenor singer like his father. A person that has found the way to translate into writing the "inner ear", transcending the objective sense of writing. Music is the spine of James Joyce flow, overcoming all the time and space boundaries and freeing the mind stream of consciousness. The haunting voice of Irish singer/songwriter Laura Ann Brady 1 is the voice of Consciousness, the living incarnation of Joyce stream of consciousness. Laura is the inner voice speaking to Telemachus, immersed in the sound texture of Arice and Julyo. Silvia Napoleoni will connect the dream world to the real one bringing on stage the physical experience of reading the Ulysses, representing the journey that the audience will have together with us or by themselves reading the opera. James Joyce's Ulysses will be explored chapter by chapter through a multimedia trip into the collective unconsciousness of the Ulysses matrix. James Joyce message of freedom was theorized by himself in the Ulysses through the limitless writing and the innovative creative process.
