About The Artwork

"The Rise of the Authoritarian." Democracy is under attack by authoritarians, corporations, anarchists and monomaniacs with more power than intelligence. This new media painting was created entirely in a digital realm with the addition of post-print color marks with pastel, paint and/or pencil added by me after printing. I do this to manage color areas and personalize each print. The final Limited Edition print I create uses museum/archival quality ink and paper. The acid-free paper and Giclee printing will yield an excellent copy of the original that will remain color-true for 100 years. A white margin is left around the piece for framing with some white space showing. I am using a very reputable fine art printer in the Hartford, Ct. area that offers high-quality Giclee archival printing on 308 gram Photo Rag acid-free Hahnemuhle paper- some of the finest fine art print paper available. This is a heavy, all-cotton rag paper with a texture that closely matches the weight and finish of the original piece I created for myself. I will hand-sign and number each print and limit the run to 10 copies. I am also providing a very nicely laid out Certificate of Authenticity with all the detail of the creation, medium and materials used. I will number and sign the COA. I include a unique and unforgeable 3-dimensional gold paint stamp establish this piece as absolutely original and signify it’s issue in the editions of 10. Thank you for viewing.

Largely a self-taught artist, Bryan started painting and drawing at a very young age working primarily in watercolor. He started painting with more commitment in 1985 while living in Cambridge, Mass. Artistic statement. Exploration, personal reflection and discovery are what I seek in in all things I enjoy, including art. I want the art I create to provoke, move, or disrupt the viewer- to transport them, at least momentarily, to a new or perhaps forgotten and deeply felt place. To know this is to know me. It’s well understood that the human brain is a complex and powerful pattern recognition organ relentlessly striving to find balance between order and chaos. This tendency toward recognition partially explains why we see faces in clouds or the Madonna in a piece of toast. Realist art is satisfying because “getting” an artwork brings a momentary feeling of victory. In contrast, abstract art confronts the viewer. The art raises the questions instead of the other way around. There is a mystery to abstract art that encourages a long arc of exploration, personal reflection and discovery. I am increasingly looking inward, rather than outward to the material world, for artistic inspiration- indulging my inner muse by seeking refuge in forms of expression that deliberately jettison recognizable content- concentrating on color, texture and form to offer a deeply felt experience. I sometimes start with a vague idea and emotion but, often the idea changes as the work evolves. Some of my more satisfying pieces were created when I relinquish conscious control of the inspirational idea and let the developing piece guide my next steps.
