About The Artwork

The Exhibit Catalog for Transformation: Fiber as Medium showcases 18 emerging and established artists working with fiber as their medium for art expression featured in the first online exhibit at The Common Thread Gallery (www.thecommonthreadgallery.com). The artists that answered the call explore themes of contemporary art that include time, memory, spirituality, identity, the body, nature and language. Their work exemplifies the most exceptional emerging and established artists working with fiber as a medium for fine art expression today. The Common Thread Gallery is honored to represent them in the inaugural exhibition, Transformation: Fiber as Medium. This is Art. It is a 48 page softcover publication with and introduction from the Curator of the Gallery, foreward by Juror Penny Griffin Lutz, and a two-page spread of each artist that includes their statement, biography, and full color image of their art. Featured Artists: Jillian Greg Sarah Haskell Kat Howard Carol Irving Rachel Johnston Daryl Lancaster Joanna Louca Lita Love Anne Luther Susan Maddux Elizabeth Odiorne Pat Perrin Ellen Ramsey Meryl Ruth Jennifer Sargent Tommye McClure Scanlin Sydney Sogol Elise Vazelakis

I engage in and teach weaving as an art form and a way of healing. I inspire, educate, and empower artists to cultivate their ideas with an openness to new creative processes and sense of self discovery through art making. Participation in the arts creates more complete human beings who are critical thinkers, who have curious minds, and who lead productive lives. My work in supporting and promoting artists impacts the world of contemporary art by exhibiting and promoting fiber as a medium of fine art expression. Art helps to heal our world and addresses narratives that are important during our time. The purpose of the work is to communicate ideas – politically, spiritually, or philosophically; to create beauty; and to explore the nature of our perceptions. I am educated in Art and Design and I have professional experience in both academia and industry. I earned my MFA in Sculpture from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2005 and BS in Textile Design from Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science in 1997.
