About The Artwork

1000 generations...its a long time....6 generations...not so much. When the stories of those from the 6 generations trumps that of the 1000 something can't be right. The Waradjuri people of central NSW in Australia carved trees in notable sites on their country. Sites of initiation, important burials....this tradition died very soon after Europeans arrived on their country. (The trees themselves were cut down and shipped off to museums around the world). Children borne of the people of 1000 generations were sent to re-education camps called mission stations. Above the beds where they slept a sign read, "think white, act white....Be white!" Cultural appropriation (or theft) is, however, a superficial thing borne of force....the spirit of 1000 generations of reverence to the land cannot be extinguished....connection thereto is strong and grows increasingly as the hollowness of the culture of the 6 generations is increasingly evident.

I'm a South African born, world travelling soul. I have walked a number of paths professionally from law to journalism to television camera operator. Circumstances now allow me to work with stills cameras. Initially I worked as a Landscape Photographer, but bored by the hum drum of pretty pictures I began exploring (perhaps) a more feminine aspect of my character. I enrolled in The Arcanum to work with a master (Jackie Ranken) who's work I've always admired...he mantra is to PLAY, PLAY A LOT. And in this playing I have begun playing out the books that I read my two girls at bedtime every night. Sill the series continue and my head gets filled with images that need bleeding every so often into digital fine art paper!
