The X-ray of a flower reveals the inner workings of that truth which exists in all of us. 15x45 inches/38x114 cm photocollage printed on Epson archival giclee print mounted and laminated with semi gloss textured non-glare surface on 2 inch deep hardboard panel. Framing is not required. It includes a wooden French cleat attached to back of panel that is hung on another interconnecting French cleat attached to wall. Screws and anchors are included for attaching wall cleat. Please use a bubble level when installing wall cleat. Verisart Certificate of Autheticity permanently attached to verso with artist signature and tamper-evident NFC tag. The first photograph taken sets the course for what follows. In some cases, the process ends there; it feels complete. In other instances, the image works by itself as well as in a collage. It also follows that other photographs, usually taken far apart with long stretches of time between them, only work when they are carefully combined together. To me, this is visual alchemy. The combinations instinctively resonate, the sum of its parts transcending their components. At times, I take the recognizability of objects to the limit, challenging the viewer’s perception, be they single images or collages. I also tend to shoot high contrast images with lots of dark areas. The absence of light can sometimes reveal so much more to me than many perfectly lit scenes. I call this the "krush". It's the perfect antithesis of what so many viewers expect when looking at a photograph. In short, the dark zones make the light areas so much more relevant in their intensity. For instance, in my “Cocktails” collage, applied vertical scratches just below the neon sign are to the left and right of the building, suggesting a cocktail glass. Going deeper, I explore themes of nostalgia and urban night life as sparingly as possible. I graphically manipulate the images as needed, so as not to detract from or overwhelm the initial intent.
