I am a creative from Johannesburg South Africa. From an early age I was attracted to simple images used as identifiers for companies and brands. I also became fascinated by the signs and symbols of the north American Indians. I studied Graphic Design at the Johannesburg School of Art in 1972. I soon experienced a rebelliousness towards the discipline that was required when it came to the commercial application of visual art. For some reason which I still don't understand, I prefered the challenge of putting things together that felt like they belonged together because of some overlap in their uniqueness or association. Unfortunately these ideas had to be shelved because I accepted employment as a Graphic Designer in advertising and later as a designer in television. I was later offered employment as a lecturer at the University of Johannesburg where I taught design and typography. During this period I won some awards in - Logo design (won 4 awards), Poster design (won 2 awards) 2D animated puppet design (1 award). I took part in 2 mixed media exhibitions and have work in England, US, Australia and Germany. Recently I have returned to my original ideas that I had to shelve all those years ago. There is still this intense desire to unturn those stones and shake that cage. I want to create highly imaginative visuals that induce personal, intellectual or frivolous responses for the viewer using unusual combinations of everyday objects.
