About The Artwork

Blue is often associated with the feeling of calmness, of stillness, and of course, peace. It is also considered as the color of freedom, imagination, and creativity. In the Universe, blue is one of the dominant colors, signifying that this color is also the color of the Spirit—the powerful force that created everything. Our veins have that bluish color as our blood is filled with oxygen, hence, the blue can also symbolize life and the dynamics of it. In the Blue series, the color has played an important role in creating an effect of movement and dynamism—just like the splashing waters of the sea as it hits the shore and the rock boulders that are on its way. The upward movement, on the other hand, reminds us of the blue flame—that element that according to the ancient spiritual lore, “represents our passions, compulsion, zeal, creativity, and motivation.” Mixed with other colors, in a flowing and splashing patterns, the series is expected to give the audience the feeling of peace and tranquility, as the world now is experiencing a bit of chaos because of the violence and disunity that we're experiencing right now. This time, blue represents that binding force that can glue us all together in harmony and unity.

“For me, art is something that shows not on ly beauty, but it is also a perfect tool to enhance one’s sensibility and intelligence. Each artwork is a story, a narrative that can bring into the fore the essence of things both ordinary and extraordinary. Furthermore, the artist’s works are but the extension of his heart and soul.” Roy C. Espinosa is a visual artist and a cultural and art advocate. He is the founding president of The Filipinas Institute for the advancement of Arts and Culture (FILARTS), Inc., a nonprofit cultural institution that advances the rights and welfare of the Filipino artists and the preservation of the indigenous arts and culture in the Philippines. He is one of the official delegates of the Art Dialogo, a cultural exchange program between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of Malaysia, on August 2016. During the height of his career in the 1980s, Espinosa garnered numerous awards and commendations because of his works. Emerging from artistic hibernation in 2014, Roy, driven by his desire to help fellow Filipino artists to be known, began publishing The Filipino Artists Magazine, as a platform to promote both masters and emerging artists in the country. To date, he has published several coffee table books as an attempt to contribute something in the world of art criticism and appreciation. As a proponent of Philippine arts and culture, Roy was given awards and commendations for his contributions to the art scene and has been invited to judge several art competitions around the city.
