Nicola Pica was born in Ponte (BN) and since he was a child he shows great aptitude for drawing and sculpture, after that the school begins its artistic journey and on its way meets a master of frescoes who will mark his art. He considers himself an eclectic artist and experiments with various techniques. For a period of time he abandoned painting and approached the world of scenography and collaborated with various scenographers both theatrical and cinematographic. In recent years, however, he understands that his path is painting and decides to resume the palette, up to now spaced with his works from impressionism, expressionism to the informal abstract, he does not disdain to deal with current issues, he loves pure colors and everything he manages to build with them, impresses his emotions on the canvas with a scratchy and material painting paints in different styles and various techniques, his painting ranges from oil to acrylic to pastel, his favorite technique is acrylic painting and oil. The creative vein of Pica translates into a modern painting, in pure pictorial expression, which recovers the tradition in an innovative way, carrying out an original and non-emulative research and study, the colors used are dense, pasty, material, with a varied score and articulated. Sometimes the plot is diluted, acquiring a delicate metaphysical consistency and highlighting Pica’s constant desire to let emerge a stylistic evolution increasingly aimed at a strongly intimate vision of making art. He creates paintings according to a personal elaboration ability, carefully analyzing his surroundings and always reproducing in a well understandable and easily usable way, as a figurative painter in the true sense of the term, which respects spaces and dimensions, depth and close-ups, not without a pinch of courtesy underlying poetic lyricism, which softens the figural ensemble. The visible reality shines through, with a particular care for balance, harmony, proportion, in order to enclose in the images, as many emotional details as possible, in order to re-propose those chosen, according to one’s exclusive ideal vision of the what’s this. In 2017 he created his own personal style which he called Cromocostruzione, obtaining a noteworthy critical success, which led him to the Venice Biennale 2019, after exhibiting in the most prestigious Italian and foreign events.
