3LC SymR 09 Oil on linen (from the archive) SOLD in 2010 during the Continuum in Symmetry exhibition. Painted at Can Studios in 2009 exhibited at The Hive Gallery solo in Barnsley. A vertical plane structure with single void rotated. 3rd all-white work, painted with Mathew Harding Oils on rabbit skin glue sized Amsterdam fine grain linen. The rotational element in the structure of the painting lead to and informed the major 2.4m 2LC DipSym PosNeg graphite diptych drawing which was the main work in the show. CONTINUUM at The Hive Gallery - Reviewed by Mik Godley For NVA "I’m no formalist, and I have little appreciation for “process art” if that’s what this is, so for the last twenty years I’ve often wondered “what on earth is Marek up to – painting circles all the time?” Frankly, such a practice would drive me nuts. More recently though, I think I’m beginning to “get it”: both the motive and making of Marek’s marathon graphite drawings presented as the focus of his current show ..." (Extract) This work sold during the major solo "Continuum in Symmetry" at the Djanogly Gallery, Nottingham exhibition. To a private collector. Marek Tobolewski'’s work continues to entrance and mystify... CiS is the most impressive show of Tobolewski’s I have ever seen ... his artistic practice seems to be a never-ceasing journey along a single path, continually striving for new insights and perfections." Andrew Cooper-NVA Ed Drawing underpins my practice, it deals within both the formal process of abstraction today and its historical continuity. The ongoing Continuum series of works are concerned with spatial portals held within symmetry and reflection, of rotated and mirrored linear forms. The linear ’Syms’ are continually evolving and endlessly being reinvented … “I return to existing works, adjust structures and refine each individual flow of a line in an attempt to hold a balance between movement and stillness.”
