Anima I is the sixth painting of Eternal Return, a series of 12 polyptychs that represent the cyclical evolution of the universe, from creation to destruction. Each polyptych is composed of 9 paintings of 50x50 cm. They are to be hanged at a distance of about 1,5 cm from each other, so as to compose the puzzle-like image shown in the picture. These paintings express my awe and admiration at the grandiosity of nature, in an attitude akin to that of primitive men. That is why I use a painting technique inspired in primitive art. A work of art composed of nine separated pictures conveys a unique feeling of dynamism, useful to transmit the impression of vital forces in motion. Each one of these pictures displays a successive stage in evolution. The title of this one refers to the appearance of animated life, represented by the hatching of a multitude of insects. The chaotic and energetic movement of the creatures conveys a hypnotic impression.
