Contradicting the hermetic appearance, about a dozen pictures of acrylic on wood, cardboard and even Atlantic wood provide the effect of diptychs and triptychs, they reveal the house(s) in two groups: outside and inside, practically indistinguishable because the discreet figurative elements are diluted in the extensive surface of the author´s pleasant abstraction. The palette of the usual colorful preciosity that also characterizes the work of José Fonte, as the presence of signs divided with extensive refinement to the effect of collages, all this contributes to the exemplary compositions of this exhibition. In two or three paintings we can see little words written with a pen while in others the number 898 and a letter from A to G suggests a stamp. This 898 (1898) remembers the year of the first occasion of “A Corja” by Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro where he caricatured the king D. Carlos «estoirando de gordura» (blowing because of the fat) and the not less famous Columbano, his brother, who painted the beautiful work of art named “ A Chávena de chá” ( “The Cup of tea”). his painting is framed.
