Painting: Oil on Canvas. This painting is made up of many layers of oil paint. I have dripped thin paint over thick paint, scraped away again and again. My first series of paintings is concentrating on abstract composition and colour combinations, exploring different textures and consistency of paint. I love the confidence that strong pure colour has on it's own. I like the idea of layers of paint, both thick and thin. I use lots of ways of painting on the canvas, mostly knives, squeegees, my hands, sponges, paper printing, and occasionally a brush.

I had my first exhibition with the Affordable Art fair in Battersea last October 2016 and sold out in two days. I emptied my home studio of paintings for the weekend sales and they sold too. I was absolutely thrilled with this initial response to my work. I then exhibited in November at Singapore and sold 5 out of 6 paintings on view. I paint because I love the process and the development of my ideas, but is is absolutely fantastic to have received such support. My next exhibition will be in New York in March at the Affordable Art Fair. I have also successfully completed large private commissions for homes in London, Miami and Switzerland in the past 10 months. The year ahead is looking to be busy already which is very exciting. My work has become much more textural and three dimensional in the last 6 months as I continue to explore mediums and surfaces. My background as a digital motion artist working in television and film has given me a strong understanding of colour, composition and design. My real passion has always been painting and I love to work with oils on canvas. I enjoy the versatility of the medium and the wonderful depth of consistency and colour. When planning a painting I sometimes use Photoshop to layer up colours, lights and digital imagery to create an initial composition before starting the canvas. This enables me to edit colours, sizes, rotation of elements and shapes into compositions quite freely before committing to paint. Inevitably once a painting is started it will take over and form its own journey. The design process purely serves as a starting point, colour palette, and early balance of colours. Once I start using paint on the canvas then intuition and exploration tend to take over. I like to work in layers of strong coloured paint, experimenting with scraping back layers to give the illusion of translucency. I like to vary the consistency and application of the paint, using knives, squeegees, brushes, masks, dripping, pouring to create the desired effect. I work in strong colours exploring the relationships between colour opposites, both in thick bold layers of oil and thin translucent glazes. My paintings can take anything from a month to six months before I am happy with them. I like to live with them for a while before being absolutely certain they are finished. Quite often I will take a painting back to the studio for an "edit".
