40 x 40 x 1.5 inches original oil painting on canvas. This large square landscape painting shows a red deer stag appearing from a lake in the foreground painted in quite traditional wildlife style. In contrast to this, the rest of the painting shows pale water, sinuous autumn trees and leaves and an island of fir trees all painted in a semi abstract, art nouveau style. The painting was inspired by the magical quality of deer in their ability to appear and disappear so fast out of the forests I often walk through. It is also an attempt to paint something that sits between 'realistic' and abstract. My favourite artist is Gustav Klimpt who was a total master of very realist versus totally decorative abstract. I am pleased with the result. Painted on deep edge canvas, ready to hang, edges wide, frame unnecessary.

My name is Gill Bustamante and I paint large contemporary landscape and seascape paintings in oil on canvas. They are mostly inspired by the Sussex landscapes I see around me where I live. My painting style is a fusion of Expressionist, Impressionist, Semi-abstract, Art Nouveau and something I term ‘memory impressionism’. This is where I go walking somewhere rural, look at and absorb the things I see and experience, and then come home and try to capture an 'echo' of the place from memory, including any wildlife I may have seen. I completed a fine art degree in Brighton in 1983 and I have painted since I was three. It always makes me happy along with cake, bunnies, driving erratically, BBC 6 music and totally irreverent comedy. Website: www.gillbustamante.com
