About The Artwork
Mermaids have always been an inspiration for my art as they seem to be stuck between two worlds and not quite fully inhabiting either the physical or the ethereal. I love staging still life arrangements that suggest a narrative, sometimes literally (pun) with the inclusion of a book as both a plinth or prop in this painting. I have also been influenced by classical design and themes on beauty. I like the quiet feeling still life work can evoke while still suggesting an inherent energy and liveliness, as evident in the repeating floral pattern of the background.

Carol received her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Jacksonville University, continued her studies with Anthony Ryder and Douglas Flynt, and went on to work at the Water Street Atelier with Jacob Collins.
