About The Artwork
A New Home, is a series of paintings I began in the start of 2018. I had just bought my first home and was painting the walls when I started to notice that the walls joined at interesting angles. I soon started to find more angles throughout the condo, which inspired me to photograph these angles and digitally manipulate the colors. The digital images then inspired me to turn them into paintings because I wanted to experiment with various textures. In each painting, at least one of the walls is painted with the same house paint used on the actual wall photographed for that painting. In many cases, this wall also includes sections from blueprints that I created in Architecture school which add more layers and details to each painting. These paintings are close to me because of their connection with my own home, my urge for experimentation, and my admiration for architecture. The edges are painted with a dark blue color, the same paint used for my front door.

Art is a means of exploration and experimentation for me. Art is my passion as well as art education and I am thankful that I am able to pursue both by working as a high school art teacher and an artist. I enjoy working with a wide variety of color, texture, and transparencies to create expressive landscapes. Nature has always been my number one inspiration and motive when creating. My color choices are vibrant and diverse, creating the abstraction and imagination in the paintings. As an art teacher, I am able to see my students ideas and stories in the classroom. Their ideas inspire me everyday and bring me so much happiness. It is so fun and motivating to see their creativity. For three years, I worked as an artist assistant for a well known St. Louis artist. I was able to learn so much from the studio and always left inspired by her artwork.
