"A River Runs through It" and its companion painting, "Stratified" take off on the matrix... on and off the grid. Both are abstract paintings comprising multiple layers. "Stratified" conveys a cool mood and urban context. Its multiple cells of activity are both contained by and escape from the boxes that typify modern urban life."A River Runs through It" changes to a warm palette.The matrix, present also in this painting, is infused with the currents of life outside the box, always present somehow within our constructions.Both paintings play with concepts of space as surface plane and as depth.
