About The Artwork

This is a representation of a "common" king rapt in introspection, whose very being is overshadowed by the mammoth responsibilities and complexities that come with the title. The riot of colours, which represents the vibrancy and glory of having the throne, is disrupted by the darkness associated with power. His expression, too, attempts to exhibit his visceral struggle. The three mouths visible through the "windows" symbolise the comments, opinions and criticism of his subjects, that clearly seem to plague his peace of mind. All in all, we see a man who is overwhelmed and consumed by all that he is faced with, as a result of his role as a king.
