VIKTÓRIA KISS Artist Statement My first solo exhibition was called ”We Find each other”, the viewer and art it also refers to fighting against the distance between people. It is very important to understand something about the essence of humans and nature in order to get in contact with the surrounding world and people and not to feel unconfortably as strangers next to each other. I use my personal experiences as motifs as the theme of my works In many cases I paint myself into the compositions and scenes. It is the search for my own identity as well as giving a sudden intensity how I paint myself as an external viewer. In my works there is a duality behind the genre scenes lies anger and love in the same time, moral dillemmas the respnsibility of makin decisions. I deal with assimilation and amotional bond. Im my past genre paintings I illustrated the relationships between people and the environment they are in. Continuing this the relations to flora and fauna. In my degree paintings it was evidently the relationship between man and woman where the ”Black” bird is the simbol of man similarly to the representations of Leda and the Swan (Zeus). I am fascinated by the own expressing nature of colours. I am using big blocks of homogenious painted surfaces of pure colours next to each other to make different relations and harmonies. This is the reason I paint fairly big canvases. The most detailed parts of my pictures are the ornaments. I continiously study the different eras of art history, renaissance, sintetism, pop art to name some of the more important ones. I am intrested in the mithology and folk art of different cultures. I also find iteresting the rediscovery of painting after nature such as David Hockney with multiplied field of vision, on his multi part canvases of scenic pictures consisting of many individual compositions.
