AFTER Painting

From early childhood I have been fascinated by surfaces and textures. My first ‘artistic’ memory is of a half demolished building where one whole side of an Edwardian building had come away and staircases , fireplaces and even wallpaper took on a ghostly afterlife. Previous existences were inferred . My interest in the half life of buildings whether through bomb damage or urban decay began from these early impressions. Subsequently I am interested in urban environments that have undergone radical change, particularly where new surfaces are created and interiors are exposed suddenly revealing private spaces to public view. In this work I am continuing my concerns about the destruction of the urban environment due to war.
