About The Artwork

Painting: Acrylic on Paper. In her minimalistic but tense calligraphic paintings, the artist deals with the same themes of light, movement, energy & dance, change & metamorphosis as in her sculptural work. Art historian Christina zu Meckenburg : „Laë's paintings prevail above all by their abstract minimalism. Elan, lightness, elegance, dance-like exhilaration, ease, informality and seemingly Far Eastern touches build a pendulum between silence, rhythm, poetry, flow and drama.“ To create the highly minimalistic deep black forms communicating with the large parts of pure white, which are so characteristic for the calligraphic paintings of Larissa Laë, demands courage and determination: first impulsive movement of colour done, no chance to change or correct the slightest thing later on. In a second step, a few targeted slight accents are placed. The whole is done with a painting tool that resembles a mobile phone in shape and size. Although the artist herself is creating her works with completely abstract intention and composing-ideas, it is always a great pleasure to her, listening to the viewers impressions during exhibitions. Her black abstract forms, seem to inevitably mobilize the viewer's imagination. According to the personal associative skills and background of the ones watching, often many different figurative elements are detected within her works: dancers, invisible men smoking cigares, animals, lovers, landscapes, cityscapes, deep-sea impressions... It is of great joy for the artist, that the fantastic and often surprising discoveries of people seem to have no limits! Therefore also the intended absence of limiting titles. Either pure in black and white (calligraphic-series) or in harmony with delicate colour backgrounds from pastel chalks and pencil/graphite drawings (colourgraphic-series), the deep black acrylic structures communicate in a playful way, like tilt or puzzle pictures, with the white of the surrounding space on paper, handmade Bütten cartonage, canvas or wooden canvas. ______________________ ° Signed in the back, due to the fact, that the painting is designed metamorphic: it may be turned over and hang in 2 different ways. ° Hahnemühle Paper, 42x29,7 cm | 11,7x16,5 inch, 190 g/m² | 90 lbs, natural white ° Shipped stretched and ready to be framed [e.g. in passe-partout and frame or in box frame - suggested minimum frame size: 60x50 cm |24x20 inch] ° Please note that the colours may vary slightly between the actual painting and the image on your screen due to the digital camera's results and your monitor. ° To see further paintings or impressions, please contact the webpage: www.larissa-lae-art.com or the artist herself.

The light. The attempt to make the immaterial become visible. What is appearance, what is being? What is revealed only by a second gaze? The secrets of movement and energy. The eternal theme of change and metamorphosis. ...... These are the topics the German artist Larissa Laë is working on. She is working in her studio in Bonn since 2008 as self-employed freelance artist. For an inside look, please visit her website www.larissalae.com. ................... Larissa Laë is a creative soul in all possible dimensions. .................. So she not only creates sculptures, paintings or photographs, presented in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, but invented also all new techniques for that, just to become able to show what she is concerned with. ................... Apart from being a recognized visual artist, she has also been working as a performing artist, which in some ways also influences her visual arts too (e.g. you may recognize a lot of 'dance' in her calligraphics) . Larissa Laë wrote, staged and acted some boulevard commedies, has own reading and concert programs for the stage, acted for the TV, presents short dance performances, does speaker jobs etc. ............ The past 5 years, however, she has strongly focused on visual arts. .................. Her main works are : /// abstract, organic CERAMIC SCULPTURES in a very elaborate technique developed by herself: porcelain-like mass over substructures, appearing homegeniuosly massive, but in a hidden way interspersed with semi-transparent zones, which become visible only in the play with light ///....... &...... /// greatly reduced but tense CALLIGRAPHIC PAINTINGS /// ...... & ...... /// monochrome PHOTOGRAPHS /// .............. Since 2017 the artist has expanded the range of materials for her sculptures by creating some works in BRONZE or artificial STONE for the outdoor area. ......... And apart from the reduced calligraphic painting, she sometimes also goes into full-colour abstract acrylic painting. ....... She loves to experience how curiosity for the new and openness for experiments on new materials, techniques or themes, often lead to a real boost of new creative expressive power!
