"Abstract -Untitled-0614" This untitled original Bill Suttles mixed media on paper abstract measures 14x11 inches. It is unframed, directly off his easel. --- Mr. Suttles graduated from the American Academy of Art in Chicago in 1952 and continues to paint professionally daily in his home studio. While at school, he was influenced by his exposure to the great Impressionist Collection at Chicago’s Art Institute. He also credits his studies with Wolf Kahn, Irwin Greenberg, and Coralie Tweed. Bill has taught Illustration at the Atlanta School of Art and is a member of the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association, The Southern Appalachian Artist Guild, and the Southeastern Pastel Society. Bill, an artist for over thirty years, has painted landscapes and figurative works in oil and pastel, which have been appearing in galleries around the Southeast for two decades. He has maintained studios in Atlanta and recently in Blairsville, the Appalachian foothills of North Georgia, where he finds a visual feast available to him just outside his door. He uses oils, pastels, and acrylics to create landscapes, abstracts and figurative works. In 2010, Bill's work was installed in the Georgia State Capital in Speaker Ralston's Office. In 2012, Bill was awarded Best of Show for his oil and pastel entries in the Southern Appalachian Artist’s Guild juried show. William Eiland, Director of the Georgia Museum of Art in Athens, stated that “Bill Suttles’ mastery of technique matches his creative imagery. He interpreted the landscape in such a way that we see its hidden colors, the nooks and crannies of leaf and tree, of hammock and hill, the delicacy and fragility of hues and tones at play both in nature and on the artist’s surface”.
