ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I was inspired after seeing Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake at Saddlers Wells to paint a male dancer. Female ballerinas are the usual subject of ballet paintings but I thought the powerful yet elegant movements that these dancers made on stage would make for an interesting painting. I used a pallet knife for the feather trousers to suggest movement and power. The oil paints gave some texture in the feathers which helps to add to the sense of movement. The dark background adds to the drama. The canvas size of 1m x 1m adds to the impact of the painting.

I work in a range of media including charcoal, pencil, oils, acrylic and watercolour. I have a passion for water and the human form.
