About The Artwork

"Albino Rabbit And The Parallel Lines" was made with oil, acrylic and graphite. The parallel lines were executed with a graphite: they are visible according to the light and the position of the spectator. Through her series "Animals", the artist takes up one of these favourite themes. After "La lune et le lièvre" (2019), Patrick Gourgouillat continues his work around the lagomorphs. This is an albino rabbit. It is the strangeness of this red-eyed animal that led the artist to create this work. We are thinking here of Lewis Carroll's tale "Alice in Wonderland", as well as the representation of the rabbit in children's literature. There is something hypnotizing about this rabbit's portrait: he seems to mock us with his examining eye. Agile by definition, this albino rabbit watches us brazenly. Patrick Gourgouillat wanted to freeze this moment to the point where he no longer really knew which of the spectator or the animal would be the most... uncomfortable. As for the parallel lines, they are straight paths with no possibility of divergence. They are in opposition to what a rabbit does very well: running away to survive...

"Everything is important, everything is beautiful, everything is sad. Where do we start if we choose to tell life and make it a work of art? Michèle Mailhot My work is eclectic, both in its form and in the use of media. In general, I work in "series". I think that one of the ways of making things interesting is through diversity: the styles as well as the techniques are varied. It can be the animal world [The Animals], societal criticism [Human Behaviour], comic strip-like drawing [Mr Doggy], crazy images as if from a dream or nightmare [Short Stories], gentle melancholy [Sky Blue] or, based on my own experience, phantasmagorical worlds in a dazzling frenzy [Viva La Vida]. I am currently working on the latter series. These series are very different from each other. What interests me are the variations in energy that they imply for me. So I go from one thing to another like one goes through experiences. This is often what happens in art in general and in life in particular.
