About The Artwork

All institutions began with a single thought. – 2016 This Ultra High Quality print is in a limited signed edition of 10 (plus 1 Artist's Proof). Giclée fine art print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Bright White cotton paper 100cm x 100cm. Printed at archival quality by Hahnemühle certified printers in Manchester, UK. Signed on reverse. Delivered safely in a postal tube. Delivery may take up to 2 weeks. (For fans of Mark Rothko, Josef Albers, Kazimir Malevich and Piet Mondrian.) This piece is from the series ‘100 Squares’. I decided to concentrate on the type of artwork that I am truly interested in – a strong motif, on a large scale, and in vibrant colours. Artwork that I create, firstly, for myself. I see squares and rectangles everywhere I go. Every day. They are the simplest forms that I know of. Perhaps less complex, but even more abundant, than circles. In this series I sought to find out if a square can mean more than ‘a square’ because of the colours that it is composed of, the visual effects it creates, and the environment that contextualizes it. Does an object have an inherent meaning, or can meaning be projected on to a thing? Is a square a representation of a thing, or is it purely an abstraction in and of itself. This makes me wonder. On the cusp between representation and abstraction, does a space exist where true meanings can be found?
