Iliana and Konstantin are artistic duo, who work together on a single canvas. They strongly believe that art creates art. The very nature of their collaborative work is a “Causa sui” - being a self-caused cause, independent on any other grounds. The idea evolves, determines and realizes itself through time as each of them matures as an artist. Working together is an intriguing way to challenge the traditional narrative of a painting. As people of complex emotions the artists apply layers of their own refined version of the world. They are observers and visionaries, yet more importantly they are seekers that have recognized each other’s light and darkness to create a negative space. The dense synergy between them complements the artwork to create a meaning beyond the canvas and the ephemeral. While Iliana's style requires a more meditative and traditional approach, Konstantin's spontaneity stretches the boundaries with unrestrained confidence to enlighten the artwork with a pulsating soul. While Iliana obeys the paint meticulously, Konstantin deliberately manipulates it in a rigorous way. It is a challenging, yet intricate process that defines the ambivalent nature of the work. The project’s cheerful celebration of colour and form challenges the ordinary and the mundane. It explores the burden of self-control and the subconscious quest for perfection.
