About The Artwork

This 2020 I started with this group of paintings that talk about extinction. There are so many animals that are in extinction danger in this planet, and many of them is due to human action. In this painting I work with an animal that was close to extinction, the beautiful American Bison. In the 19th century started the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad in USA. In his way from east to west this construction owns a really sad record. During this time tens of millions of bisons were hunted almost to extinction. Less than 100 remainded in 1880. Luckily nowadays they have recovered thanks to his protection. It’s important to know the past to not make the same mistakes again. I did this painting in the confinement of the Covid19 health crisis. And it's crazy how trying to paint about the extinction of beautiful animals of this planet, we were kind of living an extinction alert for human beings. This is not a coincidence, we can be extinct too. Our life is fragile and we need to understand that our life and the life of all the animals are interconnected.

Javi Corellano comes from the skate and surf scene of Barcelona. Scene in which he has always been involved from different points of view. Surfing and skateboarding influence his artistic work as well as his love for animals, nature and the ocean. Javi frequently uses his work as a speaker to raise awareness about environmental and animal preservation. Restless and adventurous, always on the move. That restlessness has made him travel, visit and live in several different countries such as France, India or the United States. One of his favorite places is San Francisco in California, where he has resided for several years before returning to Europe. There his art was well accepted and he was even able to exhibit some of his work at the California Academy of Science in San Francisco and in several art galleries in the city. That artistic acceptance was materialized with the prizes won in 2015 and 2016 by the National Art Program in Santa Rosa, California. Some of his works are on permanent display at the SRJC in Santa Rosa. Back in Europe he continues his artistic career by exhibiting his pieces and collaborating in a variety of projects where he always reflects his joy and vitality juxtaposed with a concern for the planet and the world around him.
