ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The small abstracts are part of a small series of paintings, Ammonite 1, Ammonite 2, Ammonite 3. These paintings are made up of 3 small paintings that can be hung in several options. In these paintings I am wanting to create depth with acrylic paint, using a palette knife and a wash of colour to the surface. I like building layers of paint to create texture and depth through the blending of colours, once covered I play with the paint as these colours want to come back to the surface. The paintings are on board and have been designed so that the paintings sits off the wall slightly, they ready to hang.

I worked as a draughtsman for several years before deciding to return to Art college where I gained a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art Painting in 1996 and have been painting since. I paint from my studio which is a converted lorry container surrounded by open countryside. I spend a great deal of time outdoors being inspired by open skies during the long walks with my two dogs. My paintings are very expressive Abstracts being extremely physical in their execution, they have a powerful presence and my large paintings are capable of making a statement to any room. My technique of painting is characterised by immediacy of a painting process and the urgency of decision making along with composition, spraying scraping at the canvas. Despite the appearance of forces meeting I constantly assess and push the boundaries of the medium exploring the pigments and their reactions to one another. Working in my studio I like to have several stretches primed ready for painting as when I feel inspired I like to paint from one canvas to another. I make a point of mixing my own colours from primary colours, as this is all part of the painting experience learning about colour mixes and is also a lot of fun. I have my work in collections in Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, United States, United Arab Emirates, Luxembourg, Italy, Ireland and the UK.
