About The Artwork

This is a vibrant and colorful composition in acrylic and marker on un-primed, gallery-wrapped canvas. It was painted on loose canvas and stretched afterwards, creating a wrap-around effect on the sides of the stretched canvas. This is a heavily layered composition, and at first glance it may seem like there couldn't possibly be any more put into it. Then your eye wanders to the top and you notice that it's a lot of untouched raw canvas up there; quite empty. Then you see spots around the composition where there is also raw canvas peeking through the layers. This has the effect of pushing back the background and pulling the foreground out with its glossy layers of raised acrylic pouring medium. It creates a volume of space within it where your eye can roam around, exploring, and finding new elements. This painting is like its own ecosystem; a contained chaos where the various forces counterbalance each other. I find the space within it to be calming. It draws you in, and pull you out of a verbal mode of thinking.
