How wonderful it is to hunt for the rare, interesting and the unusual thing! When you find it, it is very exciting, indeed! The juxtaposition of Baroque art and contemporary icons creates a curious feeling inside, making you wonder: "how often does one fully use their imagination?" This painting is painted using the Old Masters Flemish technique and created using the indirect multi-layer method with glazing on wooden panel. This technique was invented more than 500 years ago. The Flemish method of painting is highly detailed and time-consuming due to the many layers. Each layer takes time (1-5 weeks) for drying and therefore it is good to work on multiple images at once. However, the results are worth the effort, creating brilliant and luminous paintings for a convincing illusion of reality. The deepest darks were rendered transparently, and the lightest lights opaquely.

Lilia Varetsa is a contemporary visual artist and photographer who lives in Melbourne, Australia. During her career, she has become known for her passionate love of fine art and a thorough knowledge of art history. Lilia created a body of work that speaks about simultaneously present images of natural beauty and mystery and our relationship with nature in our modern and quickly changing era. Through allegory and symbolism, she expresses this concern and at the same time reminds viewers of the wonders in this extraordinary world. Clean and meditative, Lilia's artworks reveal a mind of extraordinary focus as well as a deep sense of captivating simplicity. Today, she uses her expressive instincts and well-honed eye to capture the beauty of flowers with digital images that are so finely tuned that they often pass as painted illustrations. With a never-ending source of creative inspiration, Lilia will continue to evolve as an artist discovering new techniques and exploring different ideas. Her lively surrealist style is appealing to a broad range of collectors and her work is represented in both public and private collections in Australia, UK, Italy, France, and the USA, including Fine Art Museum in Kyiv, The National Museum of History and Culture in Belarus, National Library of Belarus as well as the National Library of the USA in Washington.
