An Hour Behind Painting

Ian Hardcastle is an abstract artist, he is always searching for new ways to apply paint to canvas. "Texture and colour gives a canvas a soul". After studying the techniques and works of the old masters for many years such as Titian, Caravaggio and Rubens in small studies in oils, he then took to abstraction. I feel by studying the old masters in classical painting it gives you a grounding as an artist. Abstraction has no limits in where you can take colour and forms to create a feeling in a painting, this for me is very liberating. Break the rules...then piece them back together
