Anamnesis (Velykos) - SOLD Painting

She did not live long enough to teach me her famous golumpki recipe, and I only got the chance to savor the dish of her Lithuanian heritage once. Last Easter (2022), we took photographs under the backyard trellis. Her face appears puffy in them, from all of the medications; her pallor was somewhat ashen. Taxing rounds of chemotherapy did not stop her from hiding Easter eggs all over the yards, front and back, for the grandson she adored: 20, in all! We provided the meal, prepared with love, and brought it to her. One month later, we uprooted our lives abruptly to help take care of her amid her ongoing treatment for brain cancer, which had left her partially blind. Her home was a museum to generations of her family, a place packed with antiques including brightly-hued, multi-colored Margučiai eggs. She did not live to see another Easter. I painted "Anamnesis (Velykos)" in memory of my mother-in-law, whose brilliance of spirit matched the manifold colors of her gardens, and who created beauty all around her.
