About The Artwork

The painting of Anastasia Romanov is inspired from the portraits of past times. From portraits of the noble men and women who posed in their beautiful houses and castles of their time. Anastasia Romanov, 1901. was the fourth daughter of Tsar Nicholas II, the last monarch of Russia, and of Tsarina Alexandra and born at the Peterhof, Saint Petersburg. She was the wildest of the four sisters and a vivacious and energetic child, described as lively, mischievous, and a gifted actress. I try to put myself in that time period in order to familiarize myself with the person. Then follows extensive research into the characters’ history, before I can finally start painting this beautiful woman. The painting contains smooth backgrounds and a lot of relief - touching is allowed! -.

Jim ter Kuile is a professional contemporary artist born in Holland and residing in Münster, Germany. Hybrid art - blending past and present... His artistic mission is to show that history nowadays can be experienced in a new way. The nobles he paint , have a strong historical background, but he interpret them in a different way, with respect for the existing work of art, history and character of the character. He changes small details in their faces, a bit like a Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon. The deliberately simple composition, the bright color contrasts, a lot of relief - touching is allowed! -, self-designed jewelry and smooth backgrounds make the portraits and the portrayed come to life. They are placed in a timeless dimension: the individuals are the point of focus.
