About The Artwork

One of his last painting, a research on new aesthetic experiences. Pictorial surface made of superimposed layers that cohabitate with exposed parts of raw and acid-treated aluminium. The use of metallic powder and aluminium subtly vary the rendering of the painting when the position of the spectator, light sources or the location of the exhibit changes. Original work painted in 2018 in Lyon, France. 49,5 x 28,5 cm x 2mm Acid, brass powder, pigment, industrial binder, varnish on aluminium panel. Signed on the back to not disturb the perceptive experience. Ready-to-install with only a small hammer. It’s provided with four discreet drilled holes (around 1/16 inch of diameter), four adjusted nails and a pin punch to avoid any damage from the hammer during the installation. This easy method allows the panel’s plane to sit very closely against the wall for a resolutely contemporary result and is advised by the artist but you can also frame it or simply place it directly against a wall on a low piece of furniture. Feel free to install it in your own way. It’s a non-oriented conceived painting, you can even place it vertically.

Romain Chevrier is a French artist who lives and works in Lyon. Each of his paintings opens the field of a singular experience where the place, light and position of the spectator are called to modulate the pictorial surface to endlessly renew its perceptual treatment. Technically innovative, his fresh approach to painting rethinks materials, tools, supports and methods to develop places of free meditation that contrast with the sobriety and organization of our contemporary interiors, where solid colors and straight lines reign. His favorite medium is aluminium panels which he treats and mistreats with acid, binders and industrial varnishes, pigments, metal powders, sandpaper and tools that are at times improvised, at times made specifically for the work, or borrowed in the form of a reference to the history of art. Presented in the form of installations, he also produces some abstract sculptures. His pieces are held by private collectors and institutions in Austria, France, Luxembourg, Monaco, Morocco, the United Kingdom & the United States.
