Apache pony Whinny #2 has a brother painting in Apache pony Whinny #1 I was inspired to paint this series after a deeply influential time in the wild open expanses of the Californian desert and in the Spanish sierras. Expansive in many senses, such a vast land, free, open, and generous like the people that I met and warmth and the wonderful natural light. These paintings are optimistic that the world is opened out and is filled with color and I express it once again with my horses and their native American symbols incorporated into the working of these paintings I have observed, worked with, and painted horses since childhood, they are my enduring inspiration. I love working with, visiting, and studying the natural aptitudes of horses, I am drawn to the lines of their form, the style in their freedom of movement, their social behaviour, inquisitiveness, and the trust in the wisdom in their eyes. I paint spontaneously to convey the essence of captured movement and expression. High-quality acrylics, varnishes, and inks build up the patina, adding and detracting paint; using palette knives, brushes, fingers, making marks with trailed paint, sticks, and feathers.

Born in the UK and residing in France since 2014, I have dedicated over 35 years to painting, ceramics, and heritage restoration. My work draws inspiration from the natural world and explores themes of time, memory, and humanity through color, form, and texture. Trained in Realism and influenced by Impressionism and Expressionism, I create art that bridges the past and present. Horses, landscapes, and archetypal imagery often appear in my work, symbolizing power and connection. In my series on horses, veils obscure yet reveal their essence, reflecting the layers of culture and history that shape our primal drives. My paintings have been exhibited internationally, including in the UK, France, Italy, Canada, and the US. My ceramics have appeared in renowned venues such as the Royal Scottish Academy and Tate St Ives. Through my art, I aim to inspire a visceral connection to our shared origins and creativity.
