About The Artwork

Participation in the exhibition "ART Geography", the World Forum of Arts of Eurasia, Moscow House of Artists, 2017. The work used the ornament of traditional Arabic art on the basis of a 12-ray star and an ornament from the Tuman-Aka complex (Samarkand, Uzbekistan, 1405) in the Timurid style. Aphrodite Anadiomena is a birth-born Aphrodite. Goddess, born of foam sea. For me, this work remains the most amazing and significant. It does not even matter that I wrote her record time for me - almost half a year. And it is interesting that my Aphrodite revealed herself completely, as if from foam, appearing from my fantasies and sudden revelations. The idea of this work was originally quite different. So different, as far as it can in principle be. I can not believe that such a transformation took place in these six months. The picture seemed to write itself, manifesting itself in separate fragments, in parts. I almost did not understand until the last moment what should happen in the end. I wanted to write a female figure, completely wrapped in a veil. Only the eyes had to remain. And it was in this veil that I wanted to inscribe my arabesques. But the pattern was conceived by another - built on hexahedrons. And the figure was supposed to be small. I have retained a few sketches of that idea, you can only wonder what path it went through to the final result. Then at some point I had an understanding that I needed a completely different background. In it there should be absolutely other emotion - sharp, sharp, yellow color. And somehow surprisingly quickly found a pattern in which it was possible to reflect this sharpness - with the sharp petals of Arab stars. And again new sketches - I check the idea. And a new insight - the rhythm of my arabesques requires a completely different plastic from the female figure. And you can not hide it in a blanket entirely. It must be a movement, dynamic and viscous at the same time. Stringing is as far as the ancient Arabic ornament delves into its geometric maelstrom. There were not even any sketches. The figure was born immediately on the canvas with a single movement of the hand. She was born and decided to stay. Further details surfaced no sooner and not suddenly. But there was a feeling that I was just remembering. And remembering, I show the next piece of the picture. And somewhere near the end "remembered" the name - Aphrodite Anadiomen.

I am researching a woman’s self-awareness, formed through the prism of stereotypes and prejudices that were developed in society. I compare behavior deviation from expected patterns to a glitch effect. Glitch art criticizes the digital culture promoting an ideal transmission of the image. Social glitch is self-expression through violation of programmed standing orders. In my context, the glitch looks like an inconsistency in the information expected. I express the glitch effect through the Central Asian ikat ornament. An ornament is a visual projection of a society. And for me personally it is endowed with special meanings because I grew up in Tashkent, and oriental ornament is part of my aesthetics.
